SFL 2010/2011 Match Day 5 Preview 29th January 2011

Match Day 5 will be played on Saturday the 29th of January at the Rakan Muda Complex in Puchong.

The highlight of Match Day 4 was the presence of Astro Arena crew covering the games for the first time. This is surely a huge success for all floorballers striving to make floorball known in the Malaysian sports arena. Well done everyone!

Sat, 29th January 2011
Game 1 – GMI White Knights vs. KLIUC Griffin (4.00pm – 6.00pm)
Referees: Terence and Alvin Lee

GMI White Knights and KLIUC Griffin would both want to win this game to regain some pride in the league.

GMI White Knights gave defending champions Gang Bintang a scare last weekend. They probably played their best 20 mins of floorball in the league last weekend. They were fighting for every ball and gave their oppositions no space. Their fast paced counter attacking style may have caused some worried faces in the Gang Bintang’s line-up. But they somehow just crumbled towards the end of the second period and in the third period and were gave a good bashing by the defending champions. They could win this match if they manage to find the same tempo and spirit.

KLIUC Griffins fought hard against Salibandy!Co. last weekend but it was not enough to overcome the more seasoned players. KLIUC Griffins have yet to show any spark of brilliance except for goalkeeper Adi who have been excellent the whole season.

Prediction:
GMI White Knights to win for the second time this season.

Players to watch (GMI White Knights): Ridha, Amai, Bard, Shahir and Zaiff.
Players to watch (KLIUC Griffins): Naufal, Amirul and Adi.

Match of the week!
Game 2: Gang Bintang vs. Salibandy!Co. (6.00pm - 8.00pm)
Referees: Gerard and Suresh

Gang Bintang looks unstoppable. The White Knights gave a fight but could not overcome the mighty defending champions. Gang Bintang will be going into this one with another victory in mind. News from the team says that Khalid, leading goal scorer in this league and top scorer in SFL 2009, is set to miss this weekend’s game. If this were true, the defending champions would have to look elsewhere to keep the goals and the winning form flowing. Who would step up for the mighty Bintangs?

Salibandy!Co. suffered a hiccup in their derby encounter before silencing the critics last weekend. They continued their winning ways and are truly the black horse of the league. They have yet to pull an upset but this weekend against the defending champions seems to be the best time to do it. Salibandy!Co. would have to start playing as a team rather than depending on their key players such as Alvin to carry the team forward.

Prediction:
Gang Bintang to notch another win in style.

Players to watch (Gang Bintang): Lada, Anuar, Jethro, Gafur, Rizal and Illyaz.
Players to watch (Salibandy!Co.) : Alvin Lee Jin Aun, Ravi & Daniel Phang

Game 3 – Subang Rascals vs. Gracebandy!Co. (8.00pm – 10.00pm)
Referees: Jethro and Faz

Subang Rascals showed resilience last weekend as they took down the fighting Hornets. The Hornets especially goalie Azmill played their hearts out but still was not enough to match the mighty opposition. Subang Rascals have been gaining strength and looks too strong for struggling Gracebandy!Co. With in-form skipper Sjaiful Anuar leading the team in style and courage, it will be tough for any team to take the Rascals on.

Gracebandy!Co. have only one option in this game, to play as a team and build a wall as big as the Great Wall to keep the Rascals out. It will be tough though but that is the key. To beat Rascals, they would have to basically play as a unit; defend tightly and attack quickly.

Prediction:
No surprises here, Subang Rascals to win big.

Players to watch (Subang Rascals): Dennis, Gan, Calle, Carlos, Henrik, Sjaiful and Harry.
Players to watch (Gracebandy!Co.): Philip, Gerard, Anton and Joo Min.

Game 4 – Bangi Rusty Blade vs. KLIUC Hornets (10.00 pm – 12.00 am)
Referees: Sjaiful and second referee to be announced in due time.

Bangi Rusty Blade has been on a winning form since losing against Gang Bintang and looks very strong. They have been able to hold on without their key import players and this week they would like to do the same. Bangi Rusty Blade has to be more discipline especially when the decisions are against them and just keep playing to mature as a great team.

Hornets played well against the Rascals but were beaten well too. They would like to win this one against the Green Army. Hornets quick attacking moves have been a delight to watch however they need to be more decisive in the offensive final third. They have indeed defended well and looks mighty strong at the back but too improve they have to sort out their attacking moves.

Prediction:
The Green Army to march on.

Players to watch (Bangi Rusty Blade): Hafidz, Faz and John.
Players to watch (KLIUC Hornets): Taqiuddin, Muizuddin, Nura Dyla, Paez and Azmill.

Selangor Floorball Association wishes all floorballers a Happy Chinese New Year in advance!

Game 2: Subang Rascals 13 - 3 KLIUC Hornets ( 7 - 1 , 2 - 0 , 4 - 2 )

The mighty Rascals was the better side once again as they thrashed KLIUC Hornets. Hornets did not play as well as they were before and it was definitely not the best time to have a poor form when they face Subang Rascals. Subang Rascals did not waste any opportunity to put the ball into the back of the net and the scoreline speaks for itself.

The most impressive player was Sjaiful Anuar. The Subang Rascals skipper displayed an influential performance in this game and provided many crucial passes and scored 4 goals to strengthen the team's offensive play. The Rascals' defence was also at their very best performance as they were rock solid throughout the match. In addition, their two goalkeepers were also at their very best performance.

KLIUC Hornets, on the other hand, was effective in their counter-attack as all 3 goals came from a quick counter-attack. The partnership of Iffat and Zain was credited for 2 out of 3 goals. Azmill Hadzim, who was not at his very best form and during the match, suffered a minor injury after an encounter with one of the Rascals' players.

Goalscorers (Subang Rascals):
Sjaiful (4), Kamal (4), Henrik (2), Suresh (1), Dennis (1), Zahir (1)

Game 3: GMI White Knights 1 - 11 Gang Bintang ( 0 - 2 , 1 - 2 , 0 - 7 )

The defending champions extended their unbeaten streak to 12-game as they humbled GMI White Knights in a 11-1 victory. GMI White Knights had several surprises in the league so far but Gang Bintang was the first big team that they have ever faced this season.

Gang Bintang displayed a rather low-key performance through the first and second period, but they came back strong in the third period to seal the match. The most impressive player in the game was Rizal Razman, as he pioneered the Gang Bintang's offensive and defensive plays. Khalid, on the other hand, has been the leading scorer in the league so far, proved deadly against the GMI defence.

GMI White Knights were unorganized in their defence but their goalkeeper, Zaif, was at his best performance to-date as he made many crucial saves to help the team keep up with the Champions' pace.

Goalscorers (GMI White Knights):
Afiq Rahim (1)

Goalscorers (Gang Bintang):
Khalid (4), Kama "Bob" Bistari (3), Lada (2), Shareena (1), Rizal (1)

Best Player (GMI White Knights): Zaif
Best Player (Gang Bintang): Rizal Razman (1 goal, 4 assists)

Game 4: Salibandy!Co. 6 - 2 KLIUC Griffin ( 3 - 0 , 0 - 1 , 3 - 1 )

After suffering a shocking defeat to their derby rival last week, Salibandy!Co. went into the game strongly and making sure they keep up to the title race. And sure they did as they defeated KLIUC Griffin, who has not been performing well this season and the only team who has yet to win a single match in the league.

The most impressive player was Terence as he is scoring consistently for Salibandy!Co. and claiming another hat trick to help the team clinch the victory. Salibandy!Co. skipper, Kel Sern also had a great performance as he provided several key passes which extended the scoreline.

However, KLIUC Griffin has been playing and improving a lot week after week as they came close to equalizing in several occasion. The most notable player was their goalkeeper, Aditiya Nugraha, as he made many crucial saves to stop Salibandy!Co. players' continuous shots from all cylinders.

SFL 2010/2011 Match Day 4 Previews 22nd January 2011

Highlight of SFL 2010/2011 Match Day 3 was the record high scoring game between Gang Bintang and Subang Rascals. The Rascals received a mauling of 16-8 from the defending champions thus putting Gang Bintang as concrete favorites to defend the title.
Match Day 4 will be played on Saturday the 22nd of January at the Rakan Muda Complex in Puchong.

Sat, 22nd January 2011
Game 1 – Gracebandy!Co. vs. Bangi Rusty Blade
(4.00pm – 6.00pm)
Referees: Taqi and Muiz

Gracebandy!Co. are going into this game on a high note after staging an upset in their derby match against Salibandy!Co. Their more seasoned and senior players are finally leading the team into stride. They would have to defend better against the more lethal opponents this Saturday.

Bangi Rusty Blade would have to kill the game early if they want to keep Gracebandy!Co. at bay. Termin scoring 8 goals and assisting another definitely showed that the Green Army could cope well without their Singapore imports. Notably, many of the Green Army players have been improving and showed resilience even when the odds are down.

Prediction:
Bangi Rusty Blade to march on with another victory.

Players to watch (Gracebandy!Co.): Philip, Gerard, Anton and Joo Min.
Players to watch (Bangi Rusty Blade): Hafidz, Termin, Faz and John.

Match of the week!
Game 2: Subang Rascals vs. KLIUC Hornets (6.00pm - 8.00pm)
Referees: Faz and Gerard

Subang Rascals received a horrific beating in the hands of the defending champions, Gang Bintang. Meanwhile, Hornets came away with victory against the White Knights.

Subang Rascals would go into this game looking for nothing other than a win and are expected to fire on all cylinders after dropping points against Gang Bintang and Bangi Rusty Blade.

Captain, Muiz, and Taqiuddin have led KLIUC Hornets inspirationally. The two players, together with a sound defending backline, held strongly by mighty goalie, Azmill, and great teamwork overall have been the reason behind the Hornets success so far. They would have to hold their fort tighter against the wounded Subang Rascals who will slay them if given the opportunity.

Prediction:
Subang Rascals to win in this highly entertaining game.

Players to watch (Subang Rascals): Dennis, Gan, Calle, Carlos, Henrik, Sjaiful and Harry.
Players to watch (KLIUC Hornets): Taqiuddin, Muizuddin, Nura Dyla, Paez and Azmill.

Game 3: GMI White Knights vs. Gang Bintang (8.00pm – 10.00pm)
Referees: Arizal and Sjaiful

Gang Bintang will be going into this game without any of their foreign imports from Singapore. This will definitely be a good time for many of their fringe players to get some game time. GMI White Knights however might have other ideas. Led by coach Hafidz, the White Knights will be looking for an upset!

The White Knights lose narrowly to Hornets last weekend. After getting some experience from the earlier games, the White Knights will be put to test against the defending champions. Unless they have a plan up their sleeve, they might be heading into a nightmare.

Gang Bintang would definitely want to keep their winning and unbeaten run going. The team will definitely rely heavily on Khalid, Rizal, Lada, Jethro and Ilyaz to dictate the outcome of this game. The rest of the players could cherish this chance to make a mark on the league this season.

Prediction:
An upset is unlikely to happen, Gang Bintang to win big.

Players to watch (GMI White Knights): Ridha, Amai, Bard, Shahir and Zaiff.
Players to watch (Gang Bintang): Khalid, Lada, Anuar, Jethro, Gafur, Rizal and Illyaz.

Game 4: Salibandy!Co. vs. KLIUC Griffins (10.00 pm – 12.00 am)
Referees: Jethro and Hafidz

Salibandy!Co. lost unexpectedly during their derby encounter. It will be interesting to see how they come back from the shocking defeat. Griffins finally scored more than a goal last weekend; two to be exact, but still could not overcome the marauding Green Army.

Salibandy!Co. lost their focus, tempo and tactical discipline last weekend. Alvin and co. need to go back to the drawing board and get their tactical strategies right. Even with on form Terence, Salibandy!Co. needs to start playing with their head on top of the game.

KLIUC Griffins tried but failed against the mighty Green Army last weekend. This is one of the games they could win if they play it right from the starting whistle. Coach Hafidz does a lot on his hands and it will be interesting to see what he has in mind for this game.

Prediction:
Salibandy!Co. to condemn KLIUC Griffins to another defeat.

Players to watch (Salibandy!Co.) : Alvin Lee Jin Aun, Terence, Errol and Daniel Phang
Players to watch (KLIUC Griffins): Naufal, Amirul and Adi.

Selangor Floorball League 2010/2011: Matchday 3 Summary

Selangor Floorball League 2010/2011 just keeps getting better as we saw many great matches during Matchday 3.

Game 1: Salibandy!Co. 4 - 5 Gracebandy!Co.
(0 - 1 , 2 - 3 , 2 - 1)

Gracebandy!Co. grabbed their maiden win in the League as they have ended Salibandy!Co.'s winning run. Gracebandy!Co. fielded their strongest squad to date for this clash and it was worth while after all. Both goalkeepers performed well in trying to keep their side competitive throughout the match. But several mistakes done by Salibandy!Co's defenders have cost them a couple of goals.

Both teams were neck and neck throughout the match but Salibandy!Co. only showed their true performance in the final period which is far too late to clinch the valuable two points to keep up in the title race. Salibandy!Co. players like Alvin Lee and Terence Thong were the key individuals who helped the team to keep up in the game.

In the end, Gracebandy!Co. players ended the match with the much-deserved win after two unfortunate defeats at the beginning of their campaign.

Goalscorers (Salibandy!Co.):
Alvin L. (2), Terence (2)

Goalscorers (Gracebandy!Co.):
Philip (1), Andrian (1), Joo Min (1), Sherwin (1), Anton (1)

Best Player (Salibandy!Co.): Alvin L. (2 goals, 2 assists)
Best Player (Gracebandy!Co.): Philip Kok (1 goal, 1 assist)

Game 2: Gang Bintang 16 - 8 Subang Rascals (2 - 5 , 9 - 1 , 5 - 2)

Following Salibandy!Co.'s slipped up in their match, Gang Bintang entered the game with a chance to extend their lead in the league by 2 points.

The rivalry between Gang Bintang and Subang Rascals has dated since the previous SFL and these two teams always provide an entertaining performance. Gang Bintang welcomed their full squad for the first time this season as the Champions were the comeback kings once again to defeat their bitter rivals with an astounding 16 - 8 scoreline.

The main highlight of the match is definitely during the first period, when Subang Rascals took a 3-goal advantage over Gang Bintang. However, after the first intermission talk, Gang Bintang began to perform like the way they used to be, as they were firing in all cylinders and managed to equalize within 3 minutes into the 2nd period. Players like Khalid, Jethro and Jovyn, each scored a goal to bring the score level. And subsequently, Filip, Johnson, Banana and Lada also joined in the goalscoring spree.

Subang Rascals hailed Zahir Fikri, their forward, as he claimed his first hat trick for the club. Not only that, the club captain, Sjaiful, also displayed an influential performance to keep the team alive in the game. This match is definitely one of the floorball classics in Selangor floorball history.

Goalscorers (Gang Bintang):
Khalid (4), Filip (3), Johnson (3), Jovyn (3), Jethro (1), Kelvin "Banana" Koh (1), Lada (1)

Goalscorers (Subang Rascals):
Zahir (3), Sjaiful (2), Dennis (1), Henrik (1)

Best Player (Gang Bintang): Khalid (4 goals, 1 assist)
Best Player (Subang Rascals): Zahir Fikri (3 goals)

Game 3: GMI White Knights 2 - 3 KLIUC Hornets (2 - 1 , 0 - 2 , 0 - 0 )

KLIUC Hornets stayed in the title race as they clinched 2 points after their victory over GMI White Knights with a 3-2 scoreline.

GMI White Knights have been dubbed as one of the underdogs this season as they managed to cause several surprises in their match. Without a doubt, they also pulled off a surprise against KLIUC Hornets as they took a one-goal advantage into the end of first period.

Throughout the match, both teams displayed a strong physical performance as they went neck and neck in trying to claim 2 points. But with Hornets' captain, Muiz on his scoring form, it is without doubt his goals have contributed to Hornets' victory; a goal came after a free hit. So far, KLIUC Hornets' free hit plays have been rather effective against their opponents.

In the 3rd period, KLIUC Hornets went into a tight defensive play as they managed to defend well in an organized manner. Plus, Hornets' keeper, Azmill Hadzim was on his top form in the game as he made several key saves to keep Hornets' lead alive.

In the end, KLIUC Hornets were given the valuable 2 points to stay in the title race.

Goalscorers (GMI White Knights):
Ridha Hafidz (1), Jow (1)

Goalscorers (KLIUC Hornets):
Muiz (2), Azman (1)

Best Player (GMI White Knights): Ridha Hafidz (1 goal)
Best Player (KLIUC Hornets): Muizzudin (2 goals)

Game 4: Bangi Rusty Blade 14 - 2 KLIUC Griffin (7 - 1 , 4 - 1 , 3 - 0)

Bangi Rusty Blade were given a chance to keep up to the leaders following Salibandy!Co.'s slip-up and they do it in a fashionable way.

KLIUC Griffin has not been having a good run so far in the league as they suffered their 3rd consecutive defeats. Bangi Rusty Blade has gone all-out attack in this game as their objective is to draw their goal-deficit margin closer; and sure they achieved it.

One of the most notable players in this game was Termin as he scored 8 goals and setting up one of his teammates in Bangi Rusty Blade's 14-2 win. Hafidz has shown a good sportsmanship as he refused to celebrate after scoring against his former club despite his teammates cheering for him.

The win has pushed Bangi Rusty Blade into 2nd place and 2 points behind league leaders and defending champions, Gang Bintang.

Goalscorers (Bangi Rusty Blade):
Termin (8), Hafidz (3), Hadi (1), Faz (1), Wan (1)

Goalscorers (KLIUC Griffin):
Ahmed (1), Humaidi (1)

Best Player (Bangi Rusty Blade): Termin (8 goals, 1 assist)
Best Player (KLIUC Griffin): Ahmed (1 goal)

Quick Fact of Matchday 3:

SFL 2010/2011 Match Day 2 concluded with team Gang Bintang still on top of the table. The champions continued their undefeated feat by shoving aside the under-strength Bangi Rusty Blade with an emphatic result.

Sat, 15th January 2011
Game 1 – Salibandy!Co. vs. Gracebandy!Co. (6.00pm – 8.00pm)
Referees: Sjaiful & Arizal

The first match of Match Day 3 will see a derby encounter between two teams who had contrasting starts to the season.

Salibandy!Co. picking up two wins after two games would want to stretch their winning form against Gracebandy!Co. The fate of Salibandy!Co. depends largely on their key players who so far has able to carry the team forward.

On the other hand, the key players of Gracebandy!Co. has yet to shine and propel their team into winning ways. Gracebandy!Co. has to go back to their tactical board and improve by miles if they wish to hurt Salibandy!Co. in this game. The winner of this one would definitely walk away with bragging rights!

Prediction:
Salibandy!Co. to extend their winning form.

Players to watch (Salibandy!Co.) : Alvin Lee Jin Aun, Ravi & Daniel Phang
Players to watch (Gracebandy!Co.): Philip, Gerard, Anton & Joo Min.

Match of the week!
Game 2: Gang Bintang vs. Subang Rascals (8.00pm - 10.00pm)
Referees: Termin (The other referee is to be announced in due time)

A mouth-watering encounter awaits us in the second game of the day. Gang Bintang would want to keep Subang Rascals away from the trophy while Subang Rascals has been eyeing the coveted trophy for a long time.

This game promises the best of floorball SFL 2010/2011 has to offer and should receive the biggest attendance of fans and fellow players.

Gang Bintang depends heavily on Khalid, Rizal, Lada, Jethro and their 6 foreign imports from the Singapore Floorball League Div 1. They have been winning through individual efforts and it will be interesting to see how their individual prowess and suspected defense fare against the more organized Subang Rascals. Bangi Rusty Blade did gave Gang Bintang a scare in their previous game thus it would be interesting to see how this one squares up.

Subang Rascals is still trying to find their rhythm as a team. Against Griffins they showed flashes of their organized team play-ups, which were largely responsible for their dominance in the league last season. Led by Malaysian coach Dennis and skipper Sjaiful, it would be interesting to see whether the Rascals can end the champions run!

Prediction:
Gang Bintang to emerge as winners in this fiery encounter.

Players to watch (Gang Bintang): Khalid, Lada, Filip, Banana, Johnson, Kenny, Jethro, Gafur, Rizal & Illyaz.
Players to watch (Subang Rascals): Dennis, Gan, Calle, Carlos, Henrik, Sjaiful & Harry.

Sun, 16th January 2011

Game 3 - KLIUC Hornets vs. GMI White Knights (6.00 pm – 8.00 pm)
Referees: Jethro & Faz

The last game of Match Day 3 involves two teams looking for their second win. Hornets lost the last one against Salibandy!Co. narrowly while the White Knights manage to get their first victory against struggling Gracebandy!Co.

Hornets came into the last game looking dazed and unfocused. That form dictated the game until the second period when they look like they were going to get another comeback win, alas Salibandy!Co. proved worthy winners at the end. Hornets would need to tighten their defense and go on full cylinders from the start against the less experienced White Knights.

White Knights showed great determination and perseverance to win against the more experience Gracebandy!Co. last weekend. They could cause an upset this weekend if Hornets give them too much respect.

Prediction:
KLIUC Hornets to grab their second win of the season.

Players to watch (KLIUC Hornets): Taqiuddin, Muizuddin, Paez & Azmill.
Players to watch (GMI White Knights): Ridha, Amai, Bard, Shahir & Zaiff.

Game 4 – Bangi Rusty Blade vs. KLIUC Griffin (8.00pm – 10.00pm)
Referees: Taqi & Muiz

Bangi Rusty Blade were brought back to reality by Gang Bintang last weekend. The 9-3 score line however flattered Gang Bintang, as Bangi Rusty Blade did not pull any punches out of the game and did well to match the champions in all departments until the last period when Bangi Rusty Blade just fell apart.

KLIUC Griffin received two mauling in a row, losing 17-1 to Gang Bintang and 20-1 to Subang Rascals. KLIUC Griffins need to buck up and stop relying on so far player of the season for them, goalkeeper Adi. They would want to win this one especially with Griffins coming into this game without influential coach cum player Hafidz.

Bangi Rusty Blade have a tendency to shoot themselves in the feet thus maintaining a high level of discipline and performance is important if they want to be a challenger for the title.

Prediction:
Bangi Rusty Blade to dish out another thrashing for KLIUC Griffin.

Players to watch (Bangi Rusty Blade): Syazni, Jian Da, Termin, Faz & John.
Players to watch (KLIUC Griffins): Naufal, Amirul & Adi.

The SFL committee wishes all the team good luck in their upcoming games on Match Day 3!

Matchday 2 promised another string of great matches and it is without doubt, one of the greatest days in Selangor Floorball. There will be more to come of course !

Game 1: KLIUC Griffin 1 – 20 Subang Rascals

The mighty Rascals put their disappointing opening game defeat behind and came back in style, by doing what they do best – scoring tonnes of goals ! They dominated the whole game by demolishing their opponent without any mercy. 20-1 is the final scoreline and it was Rascals’ biggest win to date.

With the likes of Dennis, Henrik, Sjaiful, Arizal etc. plus their newest addition, Harri, who scored 5 goals on his debut, it is without doubt that the scoreline will be a huge margin. Not only that, Subang Rascals welcomed Suzanne back into their goalkeeping line and she came back stronger as ever. However, credits to Adi, the KLIUC Griffin goalkeeper pulled off a couple of great saves which entertained the crowd. KLIUC Griffin gave a good fighting spirit and pulled a goal back through Syamil.

Subang Rascals pulled off a huge win and just the perfect time to keep their goalscoring form alive as they meet their fiercest rivals, Gang Bintang this weekend.

Goalscorers (Subang Rascals):

Game 2: GMI White Knights 11 – 7 Gracebandy!Co.

The 2nd match was the battle between the SFL newboys. GMI White Knights made a classic comeback as they came back from behind and clinched a memorable maiden win in their SFL campaign.

Gracebandy!Co. was showing great dominance in the first period as they entered the first intermission with a 2-goal cushion. They went on to extend the lead to 3 goals but GMI White Knights must have been motivated by wise words from their coach, Mohammad Hafidz and they went on to steal the lead and turned the table around to clinch a 11-7 victory.

Ridha Hafidz, the GMI skipper, played a prominent role as he led the team to victory for the first time in their club history. However, we must not forget the great performance by Andrian of Gracebandy!Co. as he clinched a hat trick and was featured in several key passes of the game.

Both teams showed great floorball display, but GMI White Knights was the better side of the match.

Goalscorers (GMI White Knights):
Ridha Hafidz (2), Ahmad Faiz Hasif (2), Bakhtiar “Bard” Kamal Ariff (2), Aizuddin Akmal (1), Afiq Rahim (1), Shahir (1)

Goalscorers (Gracebandy!Co.):
Andrian (3), Joo Min (2), Gerard (1), Kendrick (1)

Best Player (Gracebandy!Co.): Andrian (3 goals, 1 assist)

Game 3: Gang Bintang 9 – 3 Bangi Rusty Blade

The match of the day saw Gang Bintang extending their unbeaten streak to 10 matches and they are not showing any signs of slowing down as they defeated the underdogs, Bangi Rusty Blade with a comfortable 9-3 victory.

Gang Bintang welcomed Kelvin “Banana” Koh and Kenny Liang back to the squad for the first time this season and these two players have played an inspiring role to help Gang Bintang claimed a great win. Banana marked his return to SFL by scoring a hat trick including one goal which came flying from the halfway line and caught the Green Army’s goalkeeper, John, no chance to saving it. Plus, Khalid who was in a hot goalscoring form now, doesn’t seem to be slowing down as he added his goal tally to 8 goals this season; taking over his teammate, Jethro at the top of the leaderboard.

One of the highlights of the match, Bangi Rusty Blade managed to equalize the early Gang Bintang lead and gave the defending champions a surprise by taking over the lead in the beginning of 2nd period. The partnership of Termin and Amir sent some early shockers to the Gang Bintang defence.

At the end of the match, Gang Bintang skipper, Jethro Wong added by saying,
“Bangi Rusty Blade have awoken the sleeping giant in every Gang Bintang players during the first period and the beginning of the second period, but we did not give up and showed everyone why we won the title last season.”

Goalscorers (Gang Bintang):
Khalid (3), Kelvin “Banana” Koh (3), Gafur (2), Kenny (1)

Goalscorers (Bangi Rusty Blade):
Amir (2), Termin (1)

Best Player (Gang Bintang): Khalid (3 goals, 1 assist)
Best Player (Bangi Rusty Blade): Termin (1 goal, 2 assists)

Game 4: Salibandy!Co. 5 – 4 KLIUC Hornets

Many have known that Salibandy!Co. and KLIUC Hornets are fierce rivals and they were neck-to-neck in their SFL meeting this time. However, Salibandy!Co. pulled off another memorable win as they won the game with a slender lead.

Terence of Salibandy!Co. was on the best form in the game as he scored a hat trick to help Salibandy!Co. clinching this win. However, some shaky defence by Salibandy!Co. has allowed KLIUC Hornets to come close to equalizing but it just was not enough to draw the match level.

Muiz and Taqi played promising role for Hornets as they kept persevering to clinch the valuable two points. But Hornets’ players have to be much organized in their attacking and defensive plays. Nevertheless, it was a great display by both clubs. But Salibandy!Co. was the better side of the game.

Goalscorers (Salibandy!Co.):
Terence (3), Alvin Lee Jin Aun (1), Ricky (1)

Goalscorers (KLIUC Hornets):
Muiz (2), Taqi (1), Apek (1)

Best Player (Salibandy!Co.): Terence (3 goals)
Best Player (KLIUC Hornets): Muiz (2 goals, 1 assist)

Quick Facts of Matchday 2:

Subang Rascals have broken the league record by claiming the biggest win in a single game ! (KLIUC Griffin 1 - 20 Subang Rascals); two-goal shy from breaking the "most goals scored in a single game" set by Gang Bintang last season (Gang Bintang 18-4 Salibandy!Co.)

Anyway, congratulations to Subang Rascals !

SFL 2010/2011 Matchday 2 Previews 8th January 2011

The Selangor Floorball League wishes all players and fans a very happy new year!

SFL 2010/2011 Matchday 1 saw some epic encounters, which promises a far better championship compared to SFL 2009 with teams and players alike improving quickly and vastly. Matchday 2 at a newer and promising venue awaits us with exciting games to be played on the 8th of January 2011! Something to ponder about before we step into this weekend big games:

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

Game 1 - KLIUC Griffins vs. Subang Rascals (2.00pm – 4.00pm)
Referees: Alvin & Taqi

After losing the opening fixture, the runner-up to last season’s championship, Subang Rascals, would be looking for a win to get their season back on track. A win would also be a lovely farewell to Satyan aka Snake who will be playing his last game for the season. KLIUC Griffins will face an uphill task keeping this giant at bay.

KLIUC Griffins’ young squad with very few players from the previous season would have to seal their defense if they were to get anything away from this game. They would be counting on goalkeeper Adi who performed well on Matchday 1. Griffins would do well to keep the score down and gain experience from this game as a platform for better days ahead.

Subang Rascals need to find their tempo if they wish to get back to winning ways. With many players returning to the fray after the holiday season, Rascals looks set to re-organize and continue their high-scoring feats. They will probably look towards Dennis Thulin and newly acquired and appointed skipper Sjaiful Anuar to lead the team by example.

Prediction:
Subang Rascals to win this one sided affair.

Players to watch (KLIUC Griffins) : Naufal, Amirul & Adi.
Players to watch (Subang Rascals): Dennis, Calle, Carlos, Henrik, Sjaiful & Snake.

Game 2: GMI White Knights vs. Gracebandy!Co. (4.00pm - 6.00pm)
Referees: Muiz & Jethro

The second game of the day will see two equally eager teams wanting to make a mark on the league. Both GMI White Knights and Gracebandy!Co. lost their opening games and it would be interesting to see which team would outwit the other.

GMI White Knights are the newcomers to the league. Playing in their rookie season, the White Knights did well to score 6 against a more experience Salibandy!Co. outfit. GMI White Knights would need to play well as a team if they hope to win this encounter. Coach Hafiz holds the responsibility of leading this hungry new team against a more experience team.

Gracebandy!Co. were humbled 8-2 by KLIUC Hornets after taking a two nil lead in the previous game. Gracebandy!Co. would need to tighten their defense and look back at their last outing to ensure that history does not repeat itself. Led by a pool of experience players like Gerard and skipper Philip, Gracebandy!Co. looks set to be the favorites for this encounter.

Prediction:
Gracebandy!Co. to win this very closely fought game.

Players to watch (GMI White Knights) : Ridha, Amai, Bard, Shahir & Zaiff
Players to watch (Gracebandy!Co.): Philip, Gerard, Anton & Joo Min.

Match of the week!
Game 3 - Gang Bintang vs. Bangi Rusty Blade (6.00pm – 8.00pm)
Referees: Suresh and Arizal

A lot of eyes will be on this game to see how the newly put-together Bangi Rusty Blade will fare against the mighty defending champions Gang Bintang.

Gang Bintang would definitely turn up full-strength this weekend including their Singapore imports. Filip, Banana, Kenny, Johnson etc look set to complement the team led by Jethro on Matchday 1. Gang Bintang have no problem scoring goals as they have shown over time however their defense this season seems fragile and unorganized. The inclusion of Banana, Kenny and Johnson would definitely strengthen it. Upfront, ever-reliable pair Khalid and Filip looks set to tear down the Bangi Rusty Blade’s defense. New skipper Jethro would also want to mark his stamp on this game. Gang Bintang would however have to win this without Lada and Song, who are both away this weekend.

Bangi Rusty Blade definitely surprised a lot of people on Matchday 1 with an unlikely win against favourite Subang Rascal. Whether the game was a stepping-stone for more historic wins in the championship remains to be seen. Bangi Rusty Blade will be coming into the game with 2 very strong lines. Line 1 consisting of the Singapore and Penang players would want to match the prowess of Gang Bintang. Line 2 lead by inspirational captain Faz and coach cum player Hafiz would also want to match the feats of line 1.

It will be very interesting to see how this game takes shape. Who will triumph? Will the import players from both teams dictate the outcome of this game?

Prediction:
Gang Bintang to win encounter this through experience.

Players to watch (Gang Bintang) : Khalid, Filip, Banana, Johnson, Kenny, Jethro, Gafur, Rizal & Ilyaz.
Players to watch (Bangi Rusty Blade): Syazni, Jian Da, Termin, Faz, Hafiz & John

Game 4 - Salibandy!Co. vs. KLIUC Hornets (8.00 pm – 10.00 pm)
Referees: Hafidz & Sjaiful

Last game of the day will see the fast and aggressive Salibandy!Co. playing against the improving Hornets. Both teams clinched victory on Matchday 1 and this will be a tough one to call.

Salibandy!Co. led by Gan Kel Sern, a player who has definitely improved since towards the end of the last SFL 2009, will be looking to win this one with speedy play-ups. However, conceding 6 goals against GMI White Knights points to a leaky defence. They will also have to get past the reliable and steady Hornets goalkeeper, Azmill if they are to win this one.

Hornets overcame Gracebandy!Co. 8-2 after conceding 2 early goals. Hornets may have mature as a team over the year but their confidence on game day will somehow dictate their play. Their strength lies in their ability to attack and defense as a team. However line 2 for the Hornets will need to step up against the mightier opposition. Taqiuddin will need to lead by example on the court if they are to win this one.

Prediction:
Salibandy!Co. to win in this close encounter.

Players to watch (Salibandy!Co.) : Alvin Lee Jin Aun, Ravi & Daniel Phang
Players to watch (KLIUC Hornets): Taqiuddin, Muizuddin & Azmill

That’s all for the previews.

Good luck to everyone! May the force be with you!

Watch out for the reviews of these games!

Change of Schedule and Venue

Due to the recent fiasco we have received from MBSA, SFA has decided to shift the league to the new place at Rakan Muda Complex in Puchong. We have confirmed the whole booking of January and are still in talks with the management to host the rest of the league if possible.

The reason we cannot use the Section 19 Volleyball Hall for our league is because there was some miscommunication between our association with MBSA and the management did not place our booking for the whole January. So, we have decided to change the venue as we have to follow the schedule.

Hence the new schedule and map to the venue are as follow:

8 January 2010
KLIUC Griffin v. Subang Rascals
(2.00pm-4.00pm)

GMI White Knights v. Gracebandy!Co.
(4.00pm - 6.00pm)

Gang Bintang v. Bangi Rusty Blade
(6.00pm - 8.00pm)

Salibandy!Co. v. KLIUC Hornets
(8.00pm - 10.00pm)
