Selangor Floorball League 2011/2012: Matchweek 2 Preview

After 2 very long and strenuous week of rest, SFL 2011/2012 resume back for Matchweek No. 2. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Matchweek 2 which was supposed to commence on the 1st January 2012 had to be postponed a day to 2nd January 2012.

2nd January 2012

Match 1: Bangi Rusty Blade vs. KLIUC Hornets (2pm-4pm)

Both team suffered defeats in their respective matches during matchweek 1. Both team will definitely be looking for their first win of the season with both team will be expected to come out in full force for this match.

Hornets as expected loss their first match against Subang Rascals and they have to thank their keeper Azmill for making countless of saves and deny Rascals even bigger win margin. But for this match Hornets will have to make do without their influential keeper as Azmill is sideline for at least 3 weeks because of leg injury. Hornets will have to dig deep with their captain Muizzuddin and experienced centre Taqi needed to step up their game and lead the team by example. They will have to tighten their defence well against a very determine BRB side.

SFL 11/12 witnesses one of the early shock of the season as Bangi Rusty Blade suffered a shocking 5-6 loss against GMI White Knights. This will certainly serves as a wake up call to BRB and they will go into this match with a revenge mission in mind as Hornets manage to beat BRB on both matches last season which evidently dented BRB hopes of fighting for the SFL title last season. BRB will continue to rely heavily on the vast experience of Hafidz to lead the team to victory. With Kendrick, Joo Min, Faz and Amir expected to play in this match, BRB are a wounded tiger ready to pounce on its next prey.

Players to watch (Bangi Rusty Blade): Hafidz, Kendrick, Joo Min, Faz
Players to watch (KLIUC Hornets): Muiz, Taqi, John

Prediction: A very close encounter between both teams with Bangi Rusty Blade coming out top in the end as the absence of Azmill for Hornets will haunt them dearly.

Match 2: Salibandy!Co. vs Gang Bintang (4pm-6pm)

This will be the first match of the season for Salibandy!Co. They will have to be at their best almost immediately as they are coming up against the defending champions Gang Bintang. Salibandy!Co will have to rely on the experience of Alvin and Terence to break up the Gang Bintang attack and they will need to play at a fast pace in order to match Gang Bintang stick by stick.

Gang Bintang as expected started brilliantly in their first match of the season when they defeated Joker Prodigy 7-1. Khalid and their inspirational skipper Jethro will again be the central point for the team against Salibandy!Co. With goalkeeper Ilyaz expected to play, Gang Bintang look solid from back to front.

Players to watch (Salibandy!Co.): Alvin, Terence, Kelson, Song Sing
Players to watch (Gang Bintang): Jethro, Khalid, Rizal, Anwar, Gafur

Prediction: A second win for Gang Bintang with Salibandy!Co. lack of match fitness costing them

Match 3: Subang Rascals vs GMI White Knights (6pm-8pm)

Subang Rascals started with a bang during matchweek 1 as they slaughtered Hornets for a 19-4 win. Rascals would certainly want to continue the astounding form that they had shown against GMI White Knights. Their skipper Sjaiful, Dennis and Kamal will certainly be the main focal point of the Rascals attack for which GMI would be wary off. Rascals goalkeeper Azahari will need to keep a very close watch against the fast paced GMI team as they can certainly spring surprises at any given opportunity as they had shown against BRB.

GMI White Knights has certainly shown their capability after they managed to win against Bangi Rusty Blade. They fast play and movement shown by the GMI players has certainly paid its dividends. But facing Subang Rascals, GMI will need to defend well and surprise Rascals with their counter attacking game. Their ever impressive goalkeeper, Penang will need to be on extra alert all throughout the game and they need to show a very high team spirit in order to achieve any kind of result in this game. If not it might just be one way traffic.

Players to watch (Subang Rascals): Sjaiful, Dennis, Snake, Henrik
Players to watch (GMI White Knights): Amai, Shahir, Penang

Prediction: Subang Rascals to continue their impressive form with a comfortable win against GMI White Knights

Match 4: Gracebandy vs KLIUC Griffin (8pm-10pm)

Gracebandy had lost several key players during the off season as Joo Min, Kendrick and Adrian had joined Bangi Rusty Blade. Nevertheless Gracebandy is still full of talented and inspirational players lead by their experienced players like Gerrard and Melvin. As this will be the first game of the season for Gracebandy, they will need to be wary off the fast game that Griffin is playing this season. They will have to really tighten their defence in order to break the Griffins attack.

Griffin tasted their first ever victory in SFL when they defeated GMI Black Wings 9-3. It has certainly became a major moral booster for Griffins as they will definitely be hungry for more wins in the league. Naufal has lead the team through example and his high spirited display had a positive impact amongst the Griffin players. With other players like Tariq, Medi and Adi hitting top form plus a great team spirit within the camp, Griffin has certainly become a force to be reckon in the league.

Players to watch (Gracebandy): Gerrard, Melvin
Players to watch (KLIUC Griffin): Naufal, Adi, Tariq, Medi

Prediction: KLIUC Griffin to continue their winnings ways with a close margin win against Gracebandy

Selangor Floorball League 2011/2012: Matchweek 1 Preview

After 7 months of break, the new season of Selangor Floorball League 2011/2012 begins. Clubs have been preparing during the pre-season through friendlies and tours and the preparation for the League is said to be overwhelming and fruitful for all clubs. With the new installation of the SFL Super Cup and Premier Cup at stake for qualifications, all clubs will surely be challenging not only for the SFL title, but also for a Cup win.

18 December 2011

Match 1: Subang Rascals v. KLIUC Hornets (4pm-6pm)

Last season's runners-up will begin their campaign against KLIUC Hornets, who will be seeking a top 4 finish this season. Rascals have always been a tougher draw for Hornets as the experience of the Rascals squad is plentiful. Hornets will have to rely on their goalkeeper, Azmill Hadzim to keep the scoreline closer to challenge the fast-paced Subang Rascals players.

Subang Rascals will most probably be starting their new signing, Apek Azahari, who signed from Bangi Rusty Blade during the transfer window, and he will be the man who Rascals will be relying on between the two posts after their no.1 goalkeeper, Susanne Olovsson is still injured.

Players to Watch (Subang Rascals): Sjaiful Anuar, Dennis Thulin, Snake, Henrik Nieminen
Players to Watch (KLIUC Hornets): Muizzudin, Taqiuddin, Azmill Hadzim

Prediction: An easy win for Subang Rascals.

Match 2: Joker Prodigy FC v. Gang Bintang (8pm-10pm)

Reigning champions, Gang Bintang will begin their title defending campaign against a new SFL club, Joker Prodigy FC, formed by former players of Bangi Rusty Blade. Gang Bintang has been well-known for their offensive plays and comeback wins last season, is hoping to start off the season in style.

With several influential players like Khalid, Jethro and Rizal, it is without a doubt the Champions will be one of the favourites to winning the title this season.

Joker Prodigy FC, on the other hand, has been rather mysterious in their club's preparation for the League as they only made their debut in pre-season friendly last month against KLIUC Griffin. Led by Ery, it is expected that Joker Prodigy FC might be in for a mid-table finish this season.

Players to Watch (Joker Prodigiy FC): Ery, Naqi
Players to Watch (Gang Bintang): Jethro, Khalid, Rizal, Anwar, Gafur

Prediction: A tough test for Joker Prodigy FC as critics think it will be a comfortable win for the defending Champions.

19 December 2011

Match 3: GMI Black Wings v. KLIUC Griffin

The 3rd match of Matchweek 1 sees newly-established GMI Black Wings face last season's bottom-placed KLIUC Griffin. A classic David-Goliath match as experience plays a big part in this match.

GMI Black Wings is a feeder club of GMI White Knights and it is formed with new players who have never been on a competitive floorball match before. They are looking into making a promising start to the season and finish the season at a respective position.

KLIUC Griffin, on the other hand, will be shrugging off their disappointing campaign last season and looking into improving the squad for the coming season. With 3 new experienced signings in the squad, it is without a doubt that KLIUC Griffin will be challenging for a top-half table finish this season. Media prediction suggests that KLIUC Griffin might have the chance to make it to the Premier Cup. Banking on the leadership of Ahmad Naufal and in-form goalkeeper, Adi Nugraha, we will have to see if KLIUC Griffin has what it takes to dent their competitors' chances in the league.

Players to Watch (GMI Black Wings): Azizul
Players to Watch (KLIUC Griffin): Adi, Naufal, Medi

Prediction: A possible nail-biter but KLIUC Griffin will see off their first win in the league since 2009.

Match 4: Bangi Rusty Blade v. GMI White Knights

The final match of matchweek 1 sees last season's 3rd-placed Bangi Rusty Blade face GMI White Knights. Bangi Rusty Blade is the only club who has been busy in the transfer window with at least 6 signings for the coming season. Losing their influential defender, Jun Wooi, is a major blow to their squad.

New signings like Joo Minn, Kendrick and Andrian will definitely boost the squad as they bid for the title this season to match the likes of Gang Bintang and Subang Rascals. Complacency may be the key issue to some of their disappointments last season, but critics believe this season will be an exciting year for them.

GMI White Knights has wow-ed many spectators and players last season with their commitment and passion for the sport. Despite being the new club last season, they finished remarkably well and have given several teams a hard time in some matches. With the likes of Shahir, Amai, and Zaiff, GMI White Knights will be hoping to start off their campaign by a surprise win.

Players to Watch (Bangi Rusty Blade): Hafidz, Joo Minn, Andrian
Players to Watch (GMI White Knights): Zaiff, Shahir, Amai, Bard

Prediction: A close encounter but Bangi Rusty Blade will see off a win.

Selangor Floorball Ladies' League 2011 Week 2 Preview

After a successful launch of the new Selangor Floorball Ladies' League, we have seen one of the finest and competitive ladies matches in Selangor floorball history. As we enter week 2, one will only anticipate what these teams have in store for us.

FOXY BLIZZARDS VS tyttöbandy!Co (11PM-1PM)

Match 1 of week 2 sees Foxy Blizzards and tyttöbandy!Co trying to battle out and draw a closer margin to league leaders, Gang Bintang. Both teams had a dominant win over their fellow Selangor counterparts in week 1 despite losing to Gang Bintang and Penang respectively.

Foxy Blizzards came close to getting a draw against Gang Bintang in week 1 but were humbled at the final whistle is going all-out for the kill against tyttöbandy!Co. tyttöbandy!Co on the other hand, played stronger and much solid in their 2nd game against Her-ricanes will be hoping to continue their winning run.

Critics will be expecting a close encounter between these two teams, but it was predicted that tyttöbandy!Co may claim the valuable 3 points.

HER-RICANES VS GANG BINTANG (1PM-3PM)

Her-ricanes did not have a successful week 1 encounter as they were overpowered badly by Penang and tyttöbandy!Co. One can only blame their understrength team in terms of numbers though their goalkeeper, Nadiana Najib was rather impressive in the two games. They are hoping to give a good fight to Gang Bintang in their 3rd game.

Gang Bintang, boosted by their championship winning management staffs, is hoping to see out this game with a win. They are hoping to continue the legacy of their men's team who has been the dominant force in Men's league for two seasons. With the players having rich field hockey skills and experience, they are more into possession-play instead of the goal-glutter style of the men's team. The win over Penang and Foxy Blizzards will give an extra confidence for Gang Bintang to extend the lead in the table.

Critics predict it will be a walk in the park for Gang Bintang in this game.

Tri-State Challenge 2011 Update: Selangor A and B Selection

With less than a week till the first matchday of Tri-State Challenge 2011, Selangor Floorball Association (SFA) is proud to announce their two Selangor Development Team A and B selection for the tournament. The teams are comprised of young and talented floorball players based in Selangor and team manager, Mohd. Hafidz, is very proud of the teams.

Selangor A is comprised of the Selangor B players that faced Team Central of Singapore last month. Ery of Joker Prodigy FC is given the captaincy for the first time. The team is formed mainly by younger players with less than 2 years of playing experience but they have bright talents. Mohd. Hafidz said that the team is lacking in ability compared to Selangor B but they are determined to prove critics wrong especially when they have shown great performance in the friendly game against Team Central.

Selangor B is comprised of many well-known players of the Selangor Floorball League 2010/2011, and without any surprise, led by the experienced Gang Bintang skipper, Jethro Wong and his vice captain, Taqiuddin Izzat of KLIUC Hornets. The skipper is confident that the team is capable of showing great floorball display after their inspiring performance against Team Central of Singapore last month which coach Kasee Ruben had praised the quality and commitment shown by the Selangor players. Moreover, the team will also be welcoming national defender Satyan Gunasekaran to the squad, who had returned from the U.S and will be featuring in this much-anticipated tournament. Mohd. Hafidz believed Selangor B has what it takes to compete for the title with Precision Academy, which is the favourites of the tournament. With home-field advantage, they are set to aim for the title despite the lacking of experience as a team because this will be their first inaugural tournament since the set-up.

When asked about the opponents, Mohd. Hafidz has identified Precision Academy as the key contender of the tournament as the team has several key national players; Termin Chiam, Kao Lin Ken and Jun Wooi. They are ambitious and experienced especially playing against the Selangor side. As for the Sabah team, he believed the Sabah team is taking this tournament as part of their development program and giving their players the exposure and experience as this will be their maiden visit to Selangor.

The tournament will last for 3 days (27 July - 29 July) and will be held at Rakan Muda Sports Complex, Puchong. And the first match is a Selangor derby and will begin at 10:00pm (GMT+8).

On behalf of SFA, we would like to wish our representatives best of luck for the tournament !

AMSA Floorball - Floorball Bucket Challenge 2011

Who knew placing 3 buckets in a pyramid shape could be turned into a feisty competition ? That is what FBC (Floorball Bucket Challenge) 2011 was all about. 9 teams (Secondary School Division) battled it out on Saturday (16 July 2011) to claim their very first bucketful challenge.

The tournament organized by AMSA Floorball. This challenge is the first ever floorball bucket challenge in Malaysia and it is held at the MBSA Hall in Shah Alam. The match setting is just a simple 3-on-3 sized court but gameplay was a 4-on-4 tournament. The objective is just simple; standard floorball gameplay but only this time, there is no goalkeeper and your goalpost is the 3 buckets.

I was there late but I managed to catch an hour of non-stop floorball action. Most of the teams are complete amateurs with only 3-6 months of playing experience. With a team I heard who first started playing floorball on the competition day itself !

Besides the tournament, there is another fun section where kids are supposed to complete several stations and collect sweets by finishing the task given. The other ultimate challenge is a small bucket challenge where the organizers placed a small bucket (around 3x4 inches wide) on a stand and your goal is to shoot against the bucket. The size of the bucket made it visibly tough especially for junior players. The hit rate is possible; I managed to hit the bucket at least 5 times out of probably 30-40 shots. But knowing that size does not matter, the joy of hitting it was completely ecstatic.

I believe this tournament is real fun to be organized especially for junior players and hopefully I will see more to come. And the next big tournament from AMSA will be the annual JACT 2011 where it is believed to be held late this year.

That being said, floorball is definitely growing in Malaysia. Majulah Sukan Untuk Negara !

Here are some pictures from the tournament; please visit the following links for more pictures. P.s I do not own these pictures.

Team Central (SIN) Tour of Selangor 2011 Summary

Picture taken from Team Central Facebook Group

Over the past two days, Selangor had witnessed two great matches from our two development teams against Team Central of Singapore.

A quick fact about Team Central:
The team is coached by Kasee Ruben and led by Syahid Zulkefli. They recently won the Singapore Div 3 Floorball League.

The friendly matches are used mainly for keeping all 3 teams (Selangor A, Selangor B and Team Central) players fit for more exciting floorball events in their respective country. Moreover, it is also used to build up better and further ties between the Selangor Floorball Association as well as our Singaporean counterpart.

One of the familiar faces in this tour was Syazni Sas, who once played for Bangi Rusty Blade back in December 2010 against Subang Rascals in Matchday 1 of the Selangor Floorball League 2010/2011.

Day 1 (23 June 2011): Selangor B 7 - 9 Team Central

Selangor B is mainly set up with junior players of about 1-2 years of playing experience. The most experienced player for the team is Gerard Ang, who filled in the captaincy on the day due to Ahmad Naufal's absence for the match.

Both sides showed competitiveness in aiming for their respective glory. Selangor B managed to score most of their 7 goals through quick breakaway of counter attacking floorball which caught Team Central's defence by surprise. However, Team Central outran Selangor B players throughout the match and gave the home side a scare in several attempts.

Most impressive player was Adi Nugraha who had saved many close-range shots as well as keeping the scoreline tight.

Day 2 (24 June 2011): Selangor A 5 - 6 Team Central

Having seen their 2nd team succumbed to defeat in the previous day, Selangor A is hoping for a sweet revenge against Team Central. The team led by Gang Bintang skipper, Jethro Wong and filled with several in-form players including SFL All-Star Team players, Azmill Hadzim, Jun Wooi, Taqiuddin and Terence.

Selangor A gave the visitors a surprise by leading (1-0) in the first period. The second period had stepped up in greater heights as Team Central were playing in a higher and faster tempo compared to the first period and managed to equalize thrice; Selangor A was leading 2-1 and 3-2 at a point of the period.

In the end, it was a close encounter for both side and Team Central got their deserving win in the highly competitive match.

The most impressive player for Selangor A was Azmill Hadzim who had saved most of the shots from Team Central players in the match.

SFL 2010/2011 Match Day 14 Preview 23th April 2011

Match Day 14 will be played on Saturday the 23rd of April 2011 at the Rakan Muda Complex in Puchong. Match Day 14 also marks the closing of Selangor Floorball League 2010/2011.

Sat, 23rd April 2011

Game 1 – KLIUC Griffin vs. Gracebandy!Co.

(12.00pm – 2.00pm)

Referees: Amai & Suresh

Prediction:

Griffins to finally get their first win of the season with a spirited match against a fading Gracebandy!Co.

Game 2- GMI White Knights vs. Subang Rascals

(2.00pm - 4.00pm)

Referees: Phillip & Faz

Prediction:

Subang Rascals to end the season with probably their best match of the season while breaking the 200 goals a season mark, and probably a little too much for the spirited White Knights to handle.

Game 3- Bangi Rusty Blade vs. Salibandy!Co.

(4.00pm - 6.00pm)

Referees: Sjaiful & Arizal

Prediction:

Bangi Rusty Blade to put pressure on Hornets by winning this one and not allowing Hornets an easy path to claim the Third placing. I however feel that Salibandy!Co. will give them a tough fight for the win.

Game 3 – KLIUC Hornets vs. Gang Bintang

(4.00pm – 6.00pm)

Referees: Naufal & Alvin

Prediction:

Gang Bintang to win this but it will not be as simple, looking at the first round match when the game was full of fireworks as Hornets lead the 2011 Champions only to be beaten in the last period. Expect the season to end with brutal display of floorball at its best!

The SFA wishes every team good luck and may fair play triumph! The SFA also would like to remind each and every team that games will start at the time stated and breaks will be limited. This is to facilitate the prize giving ceremony to end the SFA 2010/2011.

SFL 2010/2011 Match Day 10 Replacement Matches 3rd April 2011

Two games will be played on Sunday the 3rd of April 2011 at the Rakan Muda Complex in Puchong.

These two games are replacement matches to facilitate for the KLIUC players who had their exams in Match Day 10.

Sun, 3rd April 2011

Game 1 – Bangi Rusty Blade vs. KLIUC Griffin

(2.00pm – 4.00pm)

Referees: Taqi & Muiz

Bangi Rusty Blade is already involved in two surprise of the season game. One in the game that saw them beating league leaders and defending champions, Gang Bintang. The second was last weekend as they struggle against Gracebandy!Co. The main problem for the Green Army is their inconsistent form and discipline as whole. Recently, they have managed to iron out their discipline problems and focus well but alas their inconsistency could jeopardize their aspirations of staying third in the league.

KLIUC Griffins lost again against Salibandy!Co. and are still looking for a win in the league. If they focus on defending and attack the weakness in the Green Army side they could probably get the surprise win of the season. But like I say, they would have to defend very well first as the Green Army, no matter how bad they seem, have a handful of players who could win games.

Prediction:

Bangi Rusty Blade to win this.

Players to watch (Bangi Rusty Blade): Hafidz, Jun Hui, Faz & John.

Players to watch (KLIUC Griffins): Zuhri, Naufal, Amirul & Adi.

Game 2- KLIUC Hornets vs. GMI White Knights

(4.00pm - 6.00pm)

Referees: Faz & Naufal

KLIUC Hornets could only watch as greatly under strength Rascals who came with only 6 outfield players ran rings around them. Hornets could probably learn from the fact that 5 to 6 goals out of the 14 conceded last week was due to their defence ‘ball-watching’ and allowing Rascals to play the passes into the blind side. And if not for the efforts of Azmill, Hornets could have lost by a bigger margin. Hornets did score 4 and this could be their way to beating the White Knights. Quick breakaways and passes between Azim and Ifat caused problems for Rascals as well. Hornets should play to their strength and attack the White Knights from the starting whistle.

GMI White Knights played with heart and courage but again their defence did not provide the cover for their goalkeeper. A few slip-ups could be costly especially with the likes of Khalid, Lada, Jethro and Rizal around. And that was what the White Knights discovered. The White Knights would have to be more decisive too upfront as they keep playing too many blind passes which resulted in quick counter-attacks against them.

Prediction:

Hornets to win by a big margin.

Players to watch (KLIUC Hornets): Taqiuddin, Azim, Muizuddin, Nura Dyla, Ifat & Azmill.

Players to watch (GMI White Knights): Ridha, Amai, Bard, Shahir & Zaiff.

The SFA wishes every team good luck and may fair play triumph!
