Selangor Floorball League 2010/2011: Matchday 2 Summary

Matchday 2 promised another string of great matches and it is without doubt, one of the greatest days in Selangor Floorball. There will be more to come of course !

Game 1: KLIUC Griffin 1 – 20 Subang Rascals

The mighty Rascals put their disappointing opening game defeat behind and came back in style, by doing what they do best – scoring tonnes of goals ! They dominated the whole game by demolishing their opponent without any mercy. 20-1 is the final scoreline and it was Rascals’ biggest win to date.

With the likes of Dennis, Henrik, Sjaiful, Arizal etc. plus their newest addition, Harri, who scored 5 goals on his debut, it is without doubt that the scoreline will be a huge margin. Not only that, Subang Rascals welcomed Suzanne back into their goalkeeping line and she came back stronger as ever. However, credits to Adi, the KLIUC Griffin goalkeeper pulled off a couple of great saves which entertained the crowd. KLIUC Griffin gave a good fighting spirit and pulled a goal back through Syamil.

Subang Rascals pulled off a huge win and just the perfect time to keep their goalscoring form alive as they meet their fiercest rivals, Gang Bintang this weekend.

Goalscorers (Subang Rascals):
Harri (5), Henrik (3), Dennis (3), Gan Bing Hock (3), Sjaiful (2), Arizal (1), Zahir (1), Suresh (1), Kamal (1)

Goalscorers (KLIUC Griffin):
Syamil (1)

Best Player (Subang Rascals): Harri (5 goals, 1 assist)
Best Player (KLIUC Griffin): Aditiya Nugraha

Game 2: GMI White Knights 11 – 7 Gracebandy!Co.

The 2nd match was the battle between the SFL newboys. GMI White Knights made a classic comeback as they came back from behind and clinched a memorable maiden win in their SFL campaign.

Gracebandy!Co. was showing great dominance in the first period as they entered the first intermission with a 2-goal cushion. They went on to extend the lead to 3 goals but GMI White Knights must have been motivated by wise words from their coach, Mohammad Hafidz and they went on to steal the lead and turned the table around to clinch a 11-7 victory.

Ridha Hafidz, the GMI skipper, played a prominent role as he led the team to victory for the first time in their club history. However, we must not forget the great performance by Andrian of Gracebandy!Co. as he clinched a hat trick and was featured in several key passes of the game.

Both teams showed great floorball display, but GMI White Knights was the better side of the match.

Goalscorers (GMI White Knights):
Ridha Hafidz (2), Ahmad Faiz Hasif (2), Bakhtiar “Bard” Kamal Ariff (2), Aizuddin Akmal (1), Afiq Rahim (1), Shahir (1)

Goalscorers (Gracebandy!Co.):
Andrian (3), Joo Min (2), Gerard (1), Kendrick (1)

Best Player (GMI White Knights): Ridha Hafidz (2 goals)
Best Player (Gracebandy!Co.): Andrian (3 goals, 1 assist)

Game 3: Gang Bintang 9 – 3 Bangi Rusty Blade

The match of the day saw Gang Bintang extending their unbeaten streak to 10 matches and they are not showing any signs of slowing down as they defeated the underdogs, Bangi Rusty Blade with a comfortable 9-3 victory.

Gang Bintang welcomed Kelvin “Banana” Koh and Kenny Liang back to the squad for the first time this season and these two players have played an inspiring role to help Gang Bintang claimed a great win. Banana marked his return to SFL by scoring a hat trick including one goal which came flying from the halfway line and caught the Green Army’s goalkeeper, John, no chance to saving it. Plus, Khalid who was in a hot goalscoring form now, doesn’t seem to be slowing down as he added his goal tally to 8 goals this season; taking over his teammate, Jethro at the top of the leaderboard.

One of the highlights of the match, Bangi Rusty Blade managed to equalize the early Gang Bintang lead and gave the defending champions a surprise by taking over the lead in the beginning of 2nd period. The partnership of Termin and Amir sent some early shockers to the Gang Bintang defence.

At the end of the match, Gang Bintang skipper, Jethro Wong added by saying,
“Bangi Rusty Blade have awoken the sleeping giant in every Gang Bintang players during the first period and the beginning of the second period, but we did not give up and showed everyone why we won the title last season.”

Goalscorers (Gang Bintang):
Khalid (3), Kelvin “Banana” Koh (3), Gafur (2), Kenny (1)

Goalscorers (Bangi Rusty Blade):
Amir (2), Termin (1)

Best Player (Gang Bintang): Khalid (3 goals, 1 assist)
Best Player (Bangi Rusty Blade): Termin (1 goal, 2 assists)

Game 4: Salibandy!Co. 5 – 4 KLIUC Hornets

Many have known that Salibandy!Co. and KLIUC Hornets are fierce rivals and they were neck-to-neck in their SFL meeting this time. However, Salibandy!Co. pulled off another memorable win as they won the game with a slender lead.

Terence of Salibandy!Co. was on the best form in the game as he scored a hat trick to help Salibandy!Co. clinching this win. However, some shaky defence by Salibandy!Co. has allowed KLIUC Hornets to come close to equalizing but it just was not enough to draw the match level.

Muiz and Taqi played promising role for Hornets as they kept persevering to clinch the valuable two points. But Hornets’ players have to be much organized in their attacking and defensive plays. Nevertheless, it was a great display by both clubs. But Salibandy!Co. was the better side of the game.

Goalscorers (Salibandy!Co.):
Terence (3), Alvin Lee Jin Aun (1), Ricky (1)

Goalscorers (KLIUC Hornets):
Muiz (2), Taqi (1), Apek (1)

Best Player (Salibandy!Co.): Terence (3 goals)
Best Player (KLIUC Hornets): Muiz (2 goals, 1 assist)

Quick Facts of Matchday 2:

Subang Rascals have broken the league record by claiming the biggest win in a single game ! (KLIUC Griffin 1 - 20 Subang Rascals); two-goal shy from breaking the "most goals scored in a single game" set by Gang Bintang last season (Gang Bintang 18-4 Salibandy!Co.)

Anyway, congratulations to Subang Rascals !

SFL 2010/2011 Matchday 2 Previews 8th January 2011

The Selangor Floorball League wishes all players and fans a very happy new year!

SFL 2010/2011 Matchday 1 saw some epic encounters, which promises a far better championship compared to SFL 2009 with teams and players alike improving quickly and vastly. Matchday 2 at a newer and promising venue awaits us with exciting games to be played on the 8th of January 2011! Something to ponder about before we step into this weekend big games:

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

Game 1 - KLIUC Griffins vs. Subang Rascals (2.00pm – 4.00pm)
Referees: Alvin & Taqi

After losing the opening fixture, the runner-up to last season’s championship, Subang Rascals, would be looking for a win to get their season back on track. A win would also be a lovely farewell to Satyan aka Snake who will be playing his last game for the season. KLIUC Griffins will face an uphill task keeping this giant at bay.

KLIUC Griffins’ young squad with very few players from the previous season would have to seal their defense if they were to get anything away from this game. They would be counting on goalkeeper Adi who performed well on Matchday 1. Griffins would do well to keep the score down and gain experience from this game as a platform for better days ahead.

Subang Rascals need to find their tempo if they wish to get back to winning ways. With many players returning to the fray after the holiday season, Rascals looks set to re-organize and continue their high-scoring feats. They will probably look towards Dennis Thulin and newly acquired and appointed skipper Sjaiful Anuar to lead the team by example.

Prediction:
Subang Rascals to win this one sided affair.

Players to watch (KLIUC Griffins) : Naufal, Amirul & Adi.
Players to watch (Subang Rascals): Dennis, Calle, Carlos, Henrik, Sjaiful & Snake.

Game 2: GMI White Knights vs. Gracebandy!Co. (4.00pm - 6.00pm)
Referees: Muiz & Jethro

The second game of the day will see two equally eager teams wanting to make a mark on the league. Both GMI White Knights and Gracebandy!Co. lost their opening games and it would be interesting to see which team would outwit the other.

GMI White Knights are the newcomers to the league. Playing in their rookie season, the White Knights did well to score 6 against a more experience Salibandy!Co. outfit. GMI White Knights would need to play well as a team if they hope to win this encounter. Coach Hafiz holds the responsibility of leading this hungry new team against a more experience team.

Gracebandy!Co. were humbled 8-2 by KLIUC Hornets after taking a two nil lead in the previous game. Gracebandy!Co. would need to tighten their defense and look back at their last outing to ensure that history does not repeat itself. Led by a pool of experience players like Gerard and skipper Philip, Gracebandy!Co. looks set to be the favorites for this encounter.

Prediction:
Gracebandy!Co. to win this very closely fought game.

Players to watch (GMI White Knights) : Ridha, Amai, Bard, Shahir & Zaiff
Players to watch (Gracebandy!Co.): Philip, Gerard, Anton & Joo Min.

Match of the week!
Game 3 - Gang Bintang vs. Bangi Rusty Blade (6.00pm – 8.00pm)
Referees: Suresh and Arizal

A lot of eyes will be on this game to see how the newly put-together Bangi Rusty Blade will fare against the mighty defending champions Gang Bintang.

Gang Bintang would definitely turn up full-strength this weekend including their Singapore imports. Filip, Banana, Kenny, Johnson etc look set to complement the team led by Jethro on Matchday 1. Gang Bintang have no problem scoring goals as they have shown over time however their defense this season seems fragile and unorganized. The inclusion of Banana, Kenny and Johnson would definitely strengthen it. Upfront, ever-reliable pair Khalid and Filip looks set to tear down the Bangi Rusty Blade’s defense. New skipper Jethro would also want to mark his stamp on this game. Gang Bintang would however have to win this without Lada and Song, who are both away this weekend.

Bangi Rusty Blade definitely surprised a lot of people on Matchday 1 with an unlikely win against favourite Subang Rascal. Whether the game was a stepping-stone for more historic wins in the championship remains to be seen. Bangi Rusty Blade will be coming into the game with 2 very strong lines. Line 1 consisting of the Singapore and Penang players would want to match the prowess of Gang Bintang. Line 2 lead by inspirational captain Faz and coach cum player Hafiz would also want to match the feats of line 1.

It will be very interesting to see how this game takes shape. Who will triumph? Will the import players from both teams dictate the outcome of this game?

Prediction:
Gang Bintang to win encounter this through experience.

Players to watch (Gang Bintang) : Khalid, Filip, Banana, Johnson, Kenny, Jethro, Gafur, Rizal & Ilyaz.
Players to watch (Bangi Rusty Blade): Syazni, Jian Da, Termin, Faz, Hafiz & John

Game 4 - Salibandy!Co. vs. KLIUC Hornets (8.00 pm – 10.00 pm)
Referees: Hafidz & Sjaiful

Last game of the day will see the fast and aggressive Salibandy!Co. playing against the improving Hornets. Both teams clinched victory on Matchday 1 and this will be a tough one to call.

Salibandy!Co. led by Gan Kel Sern, a player who has definitely improved since towards the end of the last SFL 2009, will be looking to win this one with speedy play-ups. However, conceding 6 goals against GMI White Knights points to a leaky defence. They will also have to get past the reliable and steady Hornets goalkeeper, Azmill if they are to win this one.

Hornets overcame Gracebandy!Co. 8-2 after conceding 2 early goals. Hornets may have mature as a team over the year but their confidence on game day will somehow dictate their play. Their strength lies in their ability to attack and defense as a team. However line 2 for the Hornets will need to step up against the mightier opposition. Taqiuddin will need to lead by example on the court if they are to win this one.

Prediction:
Salibandy!Co. to win in this close encounter.

Players to watch (Salibandy!Co.) : Alvin Lee Jin Aun, Ravi & Daniel Phang
Players to watch (KLIUC Hornets): Taqiuddin, Muizuddin & Azmill

That’s all for the previews.

Good luck to everyone! May the force be with you!

Watch out for the reviews of these games!

Change of Schedule and Venue

Due to the recent fiasco we have received from MBSA, SFA has decided to shift the league to the new place at Rakan Muda Complex in Puchong. We have confirmed the whole booking of January and are still in talks with the management to host the rest of the league if possible.

The reason we cannot use the Section 19 Volleyball Hall for our league is because there was some miscommunication between our association with MBSA and the management did not place our booking for the whole January. So, we have decided to change the venue as we have to follow the schedule.

Hence the new schedule and map to the venue are as follow:

8 January 2010
KLIUC Griffin v. Subang Rascals
(2.00pm-4.00pm)

GMI White Knights v. Gracebandy!Co.
(4.00pm - 6.00pm)

Gang Bintang v. Bangi Rusty Blade
(6.00pm - 8.00pm)

Salibandy!Co. v. KLIUC Hornets
(8.00pm - 10.00pm)

Matchday 1 was a blast ! It was totally great to see everyone again and all fired up to play their first league match; debutants, juniors, seniors, veterans, supporters, practically everyone. Here is the Matchday 1 summary.

Game 1 - GMI White Knights 6 - 11 Salibandy!Co.

GMI White Knights and Salibandy!Co. helped us to start the new season with an exciting match. Both teams have shown great perseverance in trying to clinch the precious victory. GMI White Knights gave Salibandy!Co. a scare as they took the lead first. However, with Salibandy!Co.'s experience in the league, they have overcame the obstacles and scored in successive runs. GMI White Knights played really well too as their never-dying spirit was well noted. Both goalkeepers have shown great consistency as they made a couple of crucial saves to keep their team competent in the scoreline.

The player to watch was definitely Salibandy!Co.'s Alvin Lee, as he scored a hat trick and set up a goal for his teammate. A great performance by both teams but Salibandy!Co. was the better side.

Game 2 - Gracebandy!Co. 2 - 8 KLIUC Hornets

Gracebandy!Co. and KLIUC Hornets' match is another game that was entertaining. Gracebandy!Co, a new outfit in the league this season, gave last season's 4th-placed Hornets a surprise as they took a 2-goal lead. But Hornets bounced back and their counter-attack proves to be worthy as they managed to catch Edmond Wong, Gracebandy!Co's goalkeeper, by surprise in few encounters and clinched a valuable victory.

Taqiuddin of Hornets played a commanding role and he has helped his side to victory by scoring two goals and was featured in several key passes. By the end of the game, KLIUC Hornets clinched the valuable two points in the opening day by winning the game 8-2.

Best Player (KLIUC Hornets): Taqiuddin (2 goal)

Game 3 - Gang Bintang 17 - 1 KLIUC Griffin

The defending champions began their campaign with a fashionable way, by demolishing their opponent. Gang Bintang proved to be too strong for the young KLIUC Griffin squad as they thrashed them 17 - 1. Throughout the match, Gang Bintang was dominating in ball possession and has been firing in all cylinders. Their defence was well-organized as they shut off the Griffin's attack in many occasions. Last season's top player, Mohammad Khalid proved he is still Gang Bintang's goalscoring machine as he scored 5 goals in this game. But KLIUC Griffin managed to entertain the crowd as Medi scored a consolation goal for the away team and leaving Illyaz no chance to save the shot.

However, the most notable player was Jethro Wong, who began his official debut as the new Gang Bintang skipper. His inspiring performance in the game has seen him assisting 8 goals for his teammates and scoring a remarkable goal for his side.

Goalscorers (Gang Bintang):
M. Khalid (5), Anwar (3), Rizal (3), Gafur (3), Lada (2), Jethro (1)

Goalscorers (KLIUC Griffin):
Medi (1)

Best Player (Gang Bintang): Jethro (1 goal, 8 assists)
Best Player (KLIUC Griffin): Medi (1 goal)

Game 4: Bangi Rusty Blade 4 - 2 Subang Rascals

The biggest game in matchday 1 saw debutant, Bangi Rusty Blade, stunned last season's runner-up by winning them 4 - 2. Bangi Rusty Blade with several new acquisition, including M. Syazni who just got back from Finland with the Singaporean team due to the World Championships a week ago, during the transfer window proved that they are gunning for the title this season.

Subang Rascals took the lead first but it was the home team who kept the attacks coming and it was worth the effort. Goals from Faz, Syazni, Jian Da and Termin were good enough to give them a comfortable 4 - 2 win. Termin also set up a goal for his teammate during the match.

Overall, this match was a mouth-watering battle as both teams played fast-paced attacking floorball.

Goalscorers (Bangi Rusty Blade):
Faz (1), Syazni (1), Jian Da (1), Termin (1)

Goalscorers (Subang Rascals):
