Selangor Floorball League 2011/2012: Matchweek 10 Preview

SFL 11/12 return for another exciting matchweek 10. We will be the ever anticipated clash of the season between Rascals and Bintang. Local derby between the 2 GMI team and another unpredictable slugfest coming from the league bottom half teams.

Match 1: Bangi Rusty Blade vs. Gracebandy! Co. (12PM – 2PM)

I was predicting a win for BRB last week against the defending champions Gang Bintang but the end result was very much the opposite. Is it a lost of hunger to win games or they just cannot play well as a team? No one can answer that besides BRB players alone. But a way into redemption is possible and it can start with their match against Gracebandy! As said previously, their all round play is still their best strength and they should stick with that coming into this game.

Gracebandy! Co. was totally humiliated by Subang Rascals last week losing with a mind boggling score of 2-32. This season has been a roller coaster ride for most of the bottom half team that includes Gracebandy! as well. Nobody really knows what Gracebandy! are really capable off because of their indifferent form this season. Agaist BRB this weekend, we just hope that the real Gracebandy! can show up and give the out of form BRB a run for their money.

Players to watch (Bangi Rusty Blade): Hafidz, Malik, Faz

Players to watch (Gracebandy! Co.): Gerard, Philip, Sheeda, Mervin

Prediction: BRB to get back on track and win the match.

Match 2: Salibandy! Co. vs KLIUC Hornets (2Pm – 4PM)

As what was said last week, Salibandy! are up there in the third spot because they had shown consistency all throughout the season which half of the team in the league do not have currently. With the likes of Terence and Alvin continuing their outstanding form for the team, I can say that their opponent this weekend, Hornets will have a tough time to deal with them.

KLIUC Hornets form is the league has been erratic for most past of the season. They know how to play floorball but indifferent form showed by their players, lack of focus and ‘luck’ playing its part have cost Hornets dearly all throughout the current season. Against Salibandy!, they will be up against the in-form team at the moment and if their form do not change drastically, they will have a hard time this weekend playing against Salibandy!

Players to watch (Salibandy! Co.): Alvin, Terence, Joe, Song Sing

Players to watch (KLIUC Hornets): Azim, Azmill, Taqi, John

Prediction: Hornets might just give a decent fight but the win goes to Salibandy! after the final whistle.

Match 3: Subang Rascals vs Gang Bintang (4PM – 6PM)

The most anticipated match of the season that pits two fierce archrivals; Rascals and Bintang. A match that could actually determine the Champion elect of the league or prolong the battle till the end of the season.

Subang Rascals are the most potent team in the league where they have scored 162 goals. More than double against the 2^nd highest scoring team in the league Salibandy! That just shows you that Subang Rascals means business to claim the title and for Gang Bintang, they should be wary of that. With Kamal, Sjaiful, Dennis and 3 or more players on ultra top form, we can be assured all out attack coming from Subang Rascals as they will be more determined than ever to topple their main rivals to the crown. The only downsides of rascals are still the goalkeeping department for which Gang Bintang will exploit it to the max.

Gang Bintang will go into this match feeling very cautious and nervy. According to some sources, their Singapore import might not be around to help them in this match as compared to last season which would make their task much harder in trying to stop the expected all out assault coming from Rascals. Jethro, Khalid, Rizal and Ilyaz will have to be smart and organized the team carefully in order to break the Rascals attack and create their own wave of attacks towards the rascals defence.

Players to watch (Subang Rascals): Kamal, Sjaiful, Dennis, Henrik, Snake

Players to watch (Gang Bintang): Khalid, Jethro, Ilyaz, Bob

Prediction: Both teams will go at each other with fierce intensity as expected from both. But I do believe that Subang Rascals might just be too strong this season for Gang Bintang. A title deciding win for Subang Rascals.

Match 4: GMI White Knights vs GMI Blackwings (6Pm – 8PM)

Another local derby match that pits the big brother against the little brother of GMI

White Knights got the much needed win last week by overcoming Joker 6-3. It will serve as the perfect boost for them in this ‘friendly’ encounter against the baby team of GMI, which is Blackwings. But nevertheless nothing can be taken for granted as Blackwings have improved tremendously of which White Knights must be aware of this.

GMI Blackwings almost caused a shock last week by drawing against the unimpressive Hornets. Against their ‘Big Brother’ White Knights, they will definitely be eager to show them that they are of the same level as their senior players. If they continue their current style of play, another shock win will be on the cards.

Players to watch (GMI Blackwings): Asif, Hazizi

Prediction: A win for the ‘Big Brother’, GMI White Knights

Match 5: KLIUC Griffin vs Joker Prodigy FC (8PM – 10PM)

Griffin form suffered another slump last week as they lost their match against salibandy! 5-7. It has been said that they had been overachieving during the course of the season and last week lost somehow manage to bring them back into reality. This could be a blessing in disguise though as they could use it as a catalyst for them to improve back their form and go back into winning ways starting with the match against Joker Prodigy FC.

Joker Prodigy FC season is getting from bad to worse. Starting the league with some promises but somehow all of that has gone to the drain. Lost after lost have totally deplete them from any confidence and hunger to win any games ahead. This should be address immediately by the team as a whole because if not, they will just go adrift and lost all throughout the remainder of the season.

Players to watch (KLIUC Griffin): Naufal, Adi, Medi

Player to watch (Joker Prodigy): Ery, Amir, Hazwan

Prediction: A morale boosting win for Griffin to get them back on track. Another heartbreaking lost to Joker.

Selangor Floorball League 2011/2012: Matchweek 9 Preview

Time for Floorball action!!!!

Match 1: Bangi Rusty Blade vs Gang Bintang (12PM – 2PM)

Bangi Rusty Blade suffered another setback last week as they loss their match against Subang Rascals 5-19. That was their 5^th loss of the season which does not bode well for the team spirit. It will not be much easier as they will be up against Gang Bintang. It would take somewhat a miracle for BRB to win this game if they continue to play the way they are right now. Hafidz, Faz, Ayish and Malik as leaders and pillar of the club seriously need to address this. If not they might just fall deeper into uncertainty.

Gang Bintang are now logically the only team that could give Rascals who are now leading the league a real fight. This match against BRB would be the perfect match to fine tune their play and see if they really have the capability to challenge SR up there. But in all seriousness they cannot depend only with Khalid to deliver the goals. The whole team now especially the new ones need to step up and show their quality that everyone in the league expect them to have.

Player to watch (Gang Bintang): Khalid, Jethro, Rizal, Ilyaz

Prediction: Should be the match of the week if BRB can show up and show their true colours. For Gang Bintang they just need to play the usual game. Ultimately I would say the win goes to Bangi Rusty Blade. Redemption day for BRB

Match 2: KLIUC Griffin vs Salibandy! Co. (2PM – 4PM)

KLIUC Griffin was unlucky last week when they lost to Hornets 2-3. It was a very close game for which Griffin manages to show good play but lack of finishing and hunger to win the game cost them dearly. For this match against Salibandy, I would expect nothing less than all out attack coming from Griffin as Salibandy! is currently their main rival and challenger for the 3^rd place spot. But if they continue to play the way there are currently I should say this could be one hell of a match.

Salibandy! Co. is on a roll currently. Currently besides Gang Bintang and Rascals, they are the only team that have shown consistency in their play. They will have all the incentives to continue that form against their current rival Griffin. The likes of Alvin and their top scorer Terence have excelled when needed and thus they need to continue that in this game.

Player to watch (KLIUC Griffin): Naufal, Mat, Medi, Adi

Player to watch (Salibandy! Co.): Terence, Alvin, Joe

Prediction: End to end stuff expected from both team as both want to stamp their mark on the 3^rd place position. The crystal ball points towards a Griffin win.

Match 3: Gracebandy! vs Subang Rascals (4PM – 6PM)

Gracebandy! managed to chalk up surprising wins in their last 2 games winning against Hornets and White Knight. It shows that this league is very unpredictable especially at the bottom half of the table. But credit to Gracebandy! as they managed to show their grit and determination in the last 2 games. But against their next opponent Rascals, they will have to put their game 2 levels up if they want to give Rascals a run for their money.

What more can I say about Subang Rascals besides they are just unstoppable at the moment. This match could serve as a warm up for them before their highly anticipated top of the table match against Gang Bintang next week. With Kamal, Dennis, and the rest in destructive form, what else can we expect from them.

Prediction: Again anither stroll in the park for Subang Rascals

Match 4: Joker Prodigy vs GMI White Knights (6PM – 8PM)

Joker Prodigy is on a very rough patch after enduring another loss against Salibandy! 7-10. They had shown glimpse of good play on several occasion but it was never consistent. They do have talented and determined players, but they failed to show that for quite some time. Khalid as the coach for Joker have to do something about their current performance. If not it might just be downhill all the way till the end of the season.

GMI White Knights is in the same predicament as their next opponents Joker Prodigy. Their poison has always been the 3^rd period of the game. Almost all of their losses previously were attributed to the lack or should I say carelessness from White Knights especially during the 3^rd period. This must be addressed quickly by their coach Hafidz in order for them to continue challenging for the 4^th place spot.

Player to watch (Joker Prodigy): Ery, Amir Naqi, Hazwan, Fakhrul

Player to watch (GMI White Knights): Amai, Shahir, Bard, Faiz, Penang

Prediction: Predicting a very messy game from both teams but the win will side with White Knights in the end.

Match 5: KLIUC Hornets vs GMI Blackwings (8PM – 10PM)

KLIUC Hornets showed hunger, determination and a huge chunk of luck when they won last week against Griffin. Till now they haven’t really played to their true potential which is kind of surprising given their performance last season. Their attacks have rather been toothless and their defence is very much in disarray at times which is of deep concern and thus must be rectified by their coach, Sjaiful. Against Blackwings, it will be the perfect opportunity for them to get back to the good old days.

GMI Blackwings is a team on a rise currently in terms of their group play. They are a new team and nothing much is expected from them, but they can take heart with the way they had played for the past few matches that had showed tremendous improvements compared to their first few games in the league. Perhaps the appearance of Alissa as the new coach for Blackwings has given them the much needed proper guidance they need to play in the league.

Prediction: A strong game coming from both team. But in the win the win will be siding with KLIUC Hornets
